Phoenixville >> The volunteers of the Phoenixville Hospital Thrift Shop held their annual grants award reception June 15, donating a total of $47,000 to help support 12 area non-profit organizations including: Mom’s House, St. Mary’s Franciscan Shelter, The Senior Center, Phoenixville Area Community Services, The Phoenixville Community Health Foundation (Scholarship Program), The Phoenixville Hospital Community Education and Outreach, The Cancer Center, Healthcare Access, Orion Communities, The Daniel Foundation, The Clinic, and Women’s Outreach “The House” of Phoenixville.
In addition, the Thrift Shop provides the fashions for the “Dressing on a Dime” fashion show and brunch that raises money for The Breast Cancer Awareness Coalition each October, hosts a mini-shopping boutique at the Healthy Woman Anniversary Dinner held each May and sets up occasional displays to help other groups promote their causes.
The Thrift Shop, which will mark its 40th anniversary this fall, was originally started by a small group of women to help support the hospital. Through the years, the shop has grown and changed location several times, ending up at its present address in the former Neumann’s Furniture store at 236/238 Church Street. Run by 45 volunteers, the Thrift Shop takes donations, sells them and donates all proceeds back to the greater Phoenixville community in the form of grants.
The Thrift Shop is open Mon. 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tues. through Fri. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sat. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Summer hours (July and Aug.) are Tues. through Sat. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All sales are cash only. If interested in volunteering, please call the shop during business hours at (610) 983-9120.
