The Emergency Department at Phoenixville Hospital
A trip to the emergency department can be frightening, whether you're the patient or a worried family member. At Phoenixville Hospital, our ED team's focus is to put you at ease – with exceptional, prompt and compassionate care. Our ED is designed to promote rapid door-to-treatment times, easy accessibility and emergency support that begins before the patient ever arrives.
Phoenixville Hospital's ED offers advanced technology and treatment areas to facilitate triage, diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses or injuries. We offer experienced, compassionate emergency care – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients receive care from a team of board-certified, specially-trained physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners with expertise in emergency care.
What sets us apart?
More than 16,000 square feet of ED space: A larger space allows us to serve more patients, faster.
24 private patient rooms: Spacious and comfortable rooms accommodate patients who need tests or treatment and include space for the patient's family.
Bedside triage and registration: Patients are moved to a room almost immediately and triage and registration happen in that room. This enhances patient comfort, decreases wait time and expedites medical treatment.
Negative pressure room: This room is equipped with specially designed airflow systems to accommodate patients with contagious illnesses and minimize the potential for cross-contamination.
Specialized cardiac room: Dual-head walls with suction and oxygen offer twice the support technology of other ED rooms for cardiac patients. The hospital's cardiac program features a Heart Station – one of the area's most comprehensive diagnostic cardiology programs – with convenient scheduling and 24-hour report turnaround; two cardiac catheterization labs; and access to leading cardiothoracic surgeons from the University of Pennsylvania through a partnership between the hospital and the university.
Advanced communication and technology: EMS staff in the field can transmit EKG and other patient information to the hospital straight from an accident site or ambulance, allowing for advance cardiac preparation at the ED and quicker treatment for the patient. In addition to advanced diagnostic equipment, the hospital now offers Therapeutic Hypothermia treatment for patients suffering sudden cardiac arrests.
How long will it take?
Our commitment is to see all patients as quickly as possible, and our bedside registration allows for nearly no wait in our waiting room. We stand by this commitment. Our Emergency Department team has a “30 Minutes or Less Service Pledge” for patients to be seen by a physician or physician's assistant. We are proud of our average initial wait times and short average length of stay for patients in our ED.
