Interventional medicine is performed to prevent further harm or improve functioning. It includes procedures such as angiography, coronary stenting, peripheral vascular angioplasty and stenting to treat vascular disease in the neck, legs and kidneys. Stents can even be used in some patients to prevent the onset of stroke.
Interventional medicine is often an alternative to actual open surgery, such as cases where a stent is inserted into an artery in the heart in lieu of coronary artery bypass surgery.
In some cases, angioplasty and stenting can be more effective than surgery. Compared to previous years, fewer patients have had to undergo bypass surgery thanks to advances in interventional technology.
We have the technology and experience
To serve our community better, we’ve made investments both in interventional technology and staff. Phoenixville Hospital has two interventional catheterization labs—both are brand new and feature advanced equipment. And the physicians who use the labs have widespread experience.
All of our cath lab physicians have had extensive training as both a part of their residencies and fellowships and their ongoing training to develop new skills. And, these are the physicians who are actually performing your procedures.
Our labs are staffed by interventional cardiologists, a vascular surgeon and an electrophysiologist. In many cases, they can offer you many treatments you need in one procedure.
Not many people are aware that leg pain can be attributed to a blocked artery. It’s important for people, especially people with a known history of cardiovascular disease, to be aware that their bodies can form blockages in other areas and that an interventional procedure like stenting an artery in the leg can really help.
Your safety is our top concern
If you ever need a cardiac catheterization procedure, keep in mind that if something should happen during the intervention that requires surgery, Phoenixville Hospital has an experienced cardiac team right here, ready at a moment’s notice.
For many people, one of the primary advantages of Phoenixville Hospital is its location. We have caring, qualified physicians, modern equipment and a convenient location.
