The Community Health Education department at Phoenixville
Hospital provides a variety of health promotion programs, with a focus on
disease prevention, self care for health and illness and utilization of
community resources.
More than 14,000 individuals participate in over
800 programs annually. Programs are offered to adults and young adults and vary
from CPR instruction to birth and parenting preparation to anger management
seminars, breast cancer awareness, comprehensive tobacco program for adults and
teens, diabetes education, blood pressure screenings and many support groups.
Activities take place both on the campus of the hospital as well as off-site in
the community, including churches, schools, senior centers, worksites and other
accessible locations.
Collaboration with area civic, business and
religious organizations is critical in reaching members of the community. Our
collaborators have included the Chester and Montgomery counties departments of
health, area churches, including Bethel Baptist Church and First United Church
of Christ, the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation, Phoenixville Health
Care Access, the Phoenixville Area School District, the American Cancer Society,
the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association, the American
Diabetes Association, Activate Phoenixville Area, Communities That Care,
Phoenixville Area Breast Cancer Coalition, Phoenixville Area Violence Prevention
Network, Freedom Valley YMCA, Housing Authority of Chester County, Phoenixville
Senior Center, Phoenixville Area Community Services, local libraries, AARP,
supermarkets and many other community partnerships.
