Healthy Birthing Healthy Baby Programs - 2013

The primary support person is encouraged to attend with the expectant mother. Please register for classes around 20 weeks as class size is limited. Your choice will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis.

Class

Description

 Three Week Birth Preparation

Course covers the mother's physical and psychological changes, the process of labor, coping strategies for labor and delivery & post-partum. Includes booklet to take home and continue learning on-line at home. Tour of Maternity Pavilion included. Please feel free to bring drinks and snacks with you to class.

 One Day Birth Preparation

This class is a condensed version of the three-week program. Covers the mother's physical and psychological changes, the process of labor, coping strategies for labor and delivery, and post-partum. Includes booklet to take home and continue learning on-line at home. Tour of Maternity Pavilion included. Please pack a lunch, drinks and snacks. Lunch is a working lunch on-site to allow enough time to cover all the material.

 Breast Feeding
&Pumping Workshop

Class taught by a certified lactation nurse. Information will include the health benefits of breastfeeding, how to begin breastfeeding your infant and discussion about managing work and breast-feeding. This class also offers an opportunity to learn more about breast pumps and how they are used. Your primary support person is encouraged to attend. Includes booklet to take home and continue learning on-line at home. Please feel free to bring drinks and snacks with you to class.

Saturday Breast Feeding & Pumping Workshop

Same class as the Tuesday evening Breast Feeding and Pumping Workshop. Class taught by a certified lactation nurse. Information will include the health benefits of breastfeeding, how to begin breastfeeding your infant and discussion about managing work and breast-feeding. This class also offers an opportunity to learn more about breast pumps and how they are used. Your primary support person is encouraged to attend. Includes booklet to take home and continue learning on-line at home. Please feel free to bring drinks and snacks with you to class.

Infant Preparation

This one session class will help prepare you for your new baby's arrival. Hear from a local pediatrician for discussion on various topics when caring for your newborn. Also includes opportunity for hands-on practice swaddling, diapering, bathing, and feeding before your baby's arrival. Includes booklet to take home and continue learning on-line at home. Please feel free to bring drinks and snacks with you to class.

 Infant CPR for New Parents & Car Seat Safety

Emphasizes how to prevent emergencies and when to use rescue breathing and CPR. All participants receive a kit from the American Heart Association with an infant mannequin, booklet & DVD to keep and continue the learning experience at home. The car seat safety portion of the evening is presented by Safe Kids of Chester County. Learn about keeping your infant safe while riding in a vehicle. Please feel free to bring drinks and snacks with you to class.

 Car Seat Inspections

Have certified child passenger safety technicians help parents and grandparents correctly install child safety seats in their vehicles. Call Safe Kids Chester County 610-906-2711 to schedule an appointment.                                                                                  

 Sibling Preparation

For children between ages 3 to 7 who are going to become a big brother or sister, we will help get them acquainted with what to expect with a new baby.

 Post-Partum Adjustment Group

This educational and support group for new mothers meets monthly. Expectant mothers also welcome. This program offers a forum for support, networking, guest lecturers & education to help guide new mothers through the prenatal and post partum period.

Special Instructions

**Please register for classes around 20 weeks as class size is limited.** Your choice will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis as classes fill quickly. Some insurance companies will reimburse for birthing classes, CPR classes and breast pumps. Check with your insurance company to see if you are eligible. The primary support person is encouraged to attend classes with the expectant mother. Pillows are not necessary for classes, but please plan to dress comfortably. Classes are located in the Medical Office Building II, Third Floor Conference Center. If there is any room change you will be notified. In the case of inclement weather, please call the hospital's main number 610-983-1000, as the operator will have any cancellation information. Also, please feel free to bring drinks and snacks to classes as refreshments will not be provided.

Cancellation Policy: A partial refund will be given if notification is given at least four days prior to program.
